‘Alice’ Ten Feet Tall at Movie Box Office

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland topped even Avatar last weekend, with $116.3 million of ticket sales, setting a new record for a 3-D movie release.

The total was almost double what industry insiders had expected the film to bring in. Interestingly, Alice in Wonderland was photographed in 2-D but transformed to 3-D in the post-production process. The film got an unenthusiastic reception from reviewers, but as usual the public refused to listen. Evidently audiences were drawn in by the 3-D process, the enticing visuals shown in the trailers, and of course the presence of Johnny Depp in a Tim Burton film.
