If you don’t think working in the cultural influence professions is important when it comes to shaping the next generation, check out this video. If you’re one of the more than 14 million who have seen this already, it’s worth a second look. That incredibly cute clip says something about pop culture’s impact and, over time, its influence. The next time someone dismisses movies, television, or most genre fiction as frivolous pursuits, think about that three year old girl reciting back to her parents what happens in Star Wars. “But don’t talk back to Darth Vader. He’ll get ya.”

Shroud of Turin ‘Decoded’ on History Channel

Whatever else the Shroud of Turin might be, it is certainly a fascinating artifact of puzzling origin and composition. The fourteen-foot linen cloth is believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ, and some think that it constitutes proof of his resurrection. Others doubt that it is first-century in origin and consider it a fake, although the honest ones admit that it must be an exceedingly clever and oddly ambiguous one. Countless scientific tests have been conducted on the shroud in recent years, and these surely have caused no one to change their mind. The History Channel, which has shown several programs on the shroud in recent years, tries an interesting and inevitable new tack on a program premiering Tuesday, March 30, at 8-10 p.m. EDT/PDT. The Real Face of Jesus? documents the use of 3D computer graphics to create “a living, moving 3D image of the man many believe to be Jesus Christ,” as the History Channel press release characterizes it.

Michael Bay Reboots ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’

Jackie Earl Haley, taking over for Robert Englund in the role of Freddy Krueger, is taking a sharp turn away from the campiness that characterized Englund’s approach, especially in the some of the latest entries in the Elm Street franchise. As TAC contributor Jim Lakely astutely noted, in another thread, Haley is going to carve out quite the character acting career from here on out. I’d certainly be looking to him if I were a casting director. Looking at these trailers for A Nightmare On Elm Street, set for release in April, I could not agree more:
