From 30k Ft. New Left Radicals Look Like Tea Party Activists

If more conservatives and classical liberals worked at the New York Times, would conservative columnist David Brooks temper his condescending elitism? Probably not, but at least there would be a few folks in his immediate vicinity who could take him to the woodshed when he blew smoke in the face of folks from flyover country for making him dribble his Manhattan over their raucous protests on behalf of limited government. Instead, he’ll be handed a linen napkin and get a nice pat on the head (and a fat paycheck) from NYTimes’ leftists who congratulate him for not being “one of those kinds” of conservatives. I don’t blame Brooks for seeing the ’60’s New Left in today’s Tea Party movement. Brooks is just another member of the establishment media. Everything seen from the 30,000-foot altitude at which it flies looks alike. We should probably count ourselves lucky that Brooks didn’t analogize Tea Party activists to stone-throwing Palestinians. Yet. From Brooks’ posh, first-class seat in the MSM’s massive, rusting airbus, radical leftists protesting in support of communism and big government in the late ’60s look just like stay-at-home moms, blue-collar workers, and entrepreneurs who carry copies of the U.S. Constitution, labor under

American Muslims’ Protests of Fox TV Show “24″ Are Misdirected

January 19, 2007

American Muslim groups have protested to Fox Television for the use of Muslims as terrorists on the Fox TV program 24, CNN reports: Two years ago, Muslim groups protested when the plot of the hit Fox drama ’24′ cast Islamic terrorists as the villains who launched a stolen nuclear missile in an attack on America. Now, after a one-year respite during which Russian separatists played the bad guys on the critically acclaimed series, Muslims are back in the evil spotlight. Unlike last time, when agent Jack Bauer saved the day, the terrorists this time have already succeeded in detonating a nuclear bomb in a Los Angeles suburb. As we noted earlier this week on this site, the attribution of the fictional terrorists as Muslims actually makes a good deal of sense. After all, if you are going to have the premise that terrorists are operating on American soil, then Muslims would indeed seem to be the most likely ones to do so at this point in time. That much should be obvious. If anything, the program has gone too far in the opposite direction over the years, pretending that threats other than Islam are predominant. As Fox pointed out in

Neil Young’s “Living with War”

To get a feel for the new political atmosphere in the wake of the Democrats’ takeover of both houses of Congress, I’ve been listening to Neil Young’s most recent album, Living with War, recently, which was released earlier this year. As you may be aware, especially if you’ve seen the superb Saturday Night Live parody of it, the album is a collection of retro-1960s-style "protest" songs opposing the Bush administration and the American public’s sheeplike acceptance of his many atrocities (ooops—overtaken by events, Dude!). A sympathetic appraisal of one of the most talked-about songs on the album, "Let’s Impeach the President," can be found here. It captures what some people find to like about the album—its lyrics. I’m always much more taken with and interested in the sound of a musical composition rather than its words, and Living with War certainly is a disaster in terms of musicality. Nearly all of the songs are musically primitive, as is apparently Young’s intention, presumably to ensure that the listener attends primarily to the lyrics. The latter, however, are just as mundane and uncreative as the music. Consider these characteristic lines, from the ingeniously titled ditty "Shock and Awe": Back in the days
